How does Dye Sublimation ink work?

Subpro DS Sublimation ink is used for textile printing or personalized or promotional items. However, the ink can be used on specific materials, such as polyester and polyester-coated substrates. Other materials like cotton will not withstand the heat during printing.

Subpro DS Dye sublimation ink is high quality, water-proof ink. The ink does not smudge because of high temperature. In addition, dye sublimation ink lasts longer than other inks.

As the imprints are dye-based rather than ink-based, the dye becomes part of the product. Dye sublimation ink has greater print accuracy and performance and delivers stunning results. Sublimated products will not crack, peel off or wash off.

You should use a Dye sublimation transfer paper, although some do use standard copier papers this is mainly for pressing to thin acrylics which soften and stick to the paper. For most projects a specific dye sublimation transfer paper will release the dye sublimation ink better for a sharper and brighter result.

When should you use it

Dye sublimation is the perfect ink for transferring graphics onto pre-coated ceramics, metals, plastic or polyester t-shirt printing. Interested in buying premium quality dye sublimation ink?

This ink works in two ways:-
1. by printing onto a transfer paper in reverse and applying this to a polyester coated product in a heat process such as a Mug Press or Clam Press.
The ink then under heat turns from a solid to a gas and adheres to a Polymer (polyester).
Once the heat is reduced the ink converts back into a solid and is FIXED to the product.
2. Print directly to the garment again a polyester based product, this is heat fixed using a heat press to apply temperature and pressure.
In most cases a large format roller fed system (calendar).

Using high class dyes this product has supreme durability light-fastness and colour reproduction.

Can i use the dye ink that came with my printer?

No unless that was specifically a DYE SUBLIMATION printer , a standard dye printer is more for printing to photographic medias, although it is very bright and colour full this will not sublimate and stick to polymer products.  Water and heat will break down these types of dyes .
